Congratulations
Congratulations to the Battle of the Brains Winners!
We were thrilled to celebrate the winners of the Burns & McDonnell Battle of the Brains at Science City on November 21.
Congratulations to students at Olathe North High School, who earned a $50,000 grant and the chance to see their exhibit, Unplugged, constructed in Science City in 2012. Energy powers the world, and the consumption of energy drives the Unplugged experience. Visitors will discover that all energy is fundamentally the same by working with interactive elements to turn their own mechanical power into other forms of energy.
Students at Richardson Elementary in Lee’s Summit earned the top prize and a $50,000 grant in the Elementary division with their exhibit design, Hall of Magnets. The Hall of Magnets draws visitors in with the promise of interactive fun. Here, playing with magnets reaches beyond the concepts of “attract” and “repel.” Magnets are a timeless subject with strong scientific principles that serve as a foundation for and engineering.
At the ceremony, Burns & McDonnell distributed $155,000 in grants to the Battle of the Brains Top 20 to support STEM (science, technology, math and engineering) education in their schools.
$5,000 grants in the Secondary division were awarded to:
